About
In June 2021 a glossy marketing leaflet was droped through the letterboxes of homes around the Beehive site in Cambridge inviting people to a webinar in just two days time.
We listened and watched with concern as Railpen’s team unveiled a site that would clearly dominate the area. We left uncertain about many aspects including heights, impact on biodiversity, and most importantly, where was the voices of the people in the area?
Over the following months, we got to know each other and formed this website. We recognise the Beehive will be developed but wish to see a sustainable site that respects those who live by it and use it.
We continued to press Railpen and their team for answers and shared that information in our blog. We are residents, and business owners with a stake in this area and we are volunteers. We have no affiliation with Railpen or groups that are funded by them.
We have:
translated the planning language into letters that people can choose to adapt, however they wished to comment on the planning application
created a blog that explains some of the wider concerns about the impact of overdevelopment
attended presentations about the plans held by the developer
spoken with The Cambridge Room and appeared on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire
raised our concerns with local councillors across Cambridge wards from all parties
written reports for each stage of the planning process
spoken at the Planning Commitee meeting in February 2025, and the Public Inquiry in June 2025.
